Cossengrün / Hohndorf / Schönbach has been part of the city of Greiz in the Greiz district in Thuringia since December 31, 2012 .

location

geography

The district is located in the heavily hilly terrain of the Thuringian Slate Mountains . The Pöllwitzer Forest borders in the northwest . In the east, the place Cossengrün touches the Elstertal , the district itself is crossed by the Rumpelbach, the Triebitzbach, the Tremnitzbach and the Lohbach.

Territorially, the district lies entirely on the border with Saxony . It encloses the city of Elsterberg on three sides.

Local division

The district consists of the villages of Cossengrün , Eubenberg , Gablau , Hohndorf , Leiningen , Pansdorf , Schönbach and Tremnitz . Its own district constitution enables a district council and its own honorary mayor. This office is currently held by Alexander Schulze , who is also the mayor of Greiz. He was confirmed in office in the local elections in Thuringia in 2019 .

history

When the state of Thuringia was founded in 1920, the places of today's Greiz district of Cossengrün / Hohndorf / Schönbach still belonged to different districts and represented individual communities. Over time, these were combined so that when today's district of Greiz was formed in 1994, the communities Cossengrün , Schönbach and Hohndorf existed. Together with a few other municipalities, these formed the administrative community Vogtländisches Oberland , which merged in 1999 to form the municipality of Vogtländisches Oberland . On December 31, 2012, this was dissolved and the localities of the cities of Greiz and Zeulenroda-Triebes incorporated. The orientation was based on the former district boundaries from 1920. Eubenberg, which belonged to Arnsgrün (today Zeulenroda-Triebes), is an exception. This was spun off from there and incorporated into Greiz so that its urban area is not split up.

traffic

Most of the district is accessible by county roads. They connect Tremnitz, Pansdorf and Hohndorf directly with Greiz. Gablau, Leiningen and Eubenberg are connected by municipal roads. The places Schönbach and Cossengrün can only be reached via the federal highway 92 , which previously ran through Saxon territory. This makes these places functional exclaves . Between Elsterberg and Cossengrün, the B 92 also runs just over the Hohndorfer district. The L 2342 to Bernsgrün begins here .

Local traffic in the district is mainly carried out by PRG Greiz . Their line 2 connects the towns twice a day with Greiz and Elsterberg during the week as part of the general interest . During school days, the offer is expanded accordingly, with Cossengrün being served up to eight times a day. There are also pure school buses between Elsterberg and Plauen , which serve bus stops in the district.

The Elstertalbahn runs east of Cossengrün in two places through the district. Just under a kilometer from Cossengrün, directly behind the state border with Saxony, is the " Rentzschmühle " stop, which is served every two hours by Vogtlandbahn trains . This can be reached via a street.
