The legal seat is in the city of Syke, Hauptstraße 30. The branch there was built in 2019 on the site of the previous building, which was inaugurated in 1976.

The administrative headquarters of Volksbank eG is in Bassum. There the bank acquired a listed building complex consisting of a district court and a prison in 1998. During the renovation and renovation work, the complex structure was largely preserved. A new part of the building, which encloses the prison building and creates a connection to the district court, on the one hand took into account the preservation of the architectural monument, while on the other hand the functional necessity of a modern bank building was realized. During the opening hours of the credit institute in the counter room, visitors can look into an old prison cell through a glass plate embedded in the floor. The building was occupied in April 2001. Both inside and outside the building there are works of art that relate to its history.

Volksbank Stuhr eG

In 1896, the savings and loan association eGmbH was founded in Stuhr as the oldest predecessor institute. After several name changes, the institute traded under the name Volksbank Stuhr eG after a merger with Volksbank Seckenhausen eG in 1974.

Volksbank Bassum eG

The commercial bank was founded in Bassum in 1913 and changed its name to Savings and Loans Bank Bassum in 1932. Mergers followed in 1967 with the savings and loan association Nordwohlde and in 1969 with the savings and loan associations in Neuenkirchen. In 1974 the credit institution changed its name to Volksbank Bassum eG.

Volksbank eG Syke

In 1927 the Syke cooperative bank was founded. At this time there were already several older regional banks in the region, which later merged with Volksbank in Syke. Mergers took place with the Savings and Loan Fund Heiligenfelde (1968), the Spardaka Sudweyhe (1969), the Savings and Loan Fund Riede (1970) and the Savings and Loan Fund Barrien (1971). In 1971 the bank changed its name to Volksbank eG. The place name Syke is used to distinguish it from other Volksbanks.

Merger to form Volksbank eG in 1993

In 1993 the three companies Volksbank Bassum eG, Volksbank Stuhr eG and Volksbank eG Syke merged. The acquiring bank and thus both namesake and legal seat was the Syker Institute. Since then the bank has been called Volksbank eG. The designation Volksbank eG Syke is still used to differentiate.

Social and cultural engagement

In 2018, the bank distributed around 85,000 euros in donations to local charitable organizations and associations. In addition, in cooperation with the social debt counseling service of the Diakonisches Werk Diepholz-Syke-Hoya, it contributes to the financial education of young people at schools in its business area. In addition to supporting music and cultural events, she has been organizing the “Jailhouse” concert series herself since 2014. Once a year, the counter hall of the historic bank building becomes a stage for bands of different musical styles.
