history

Neuenkirchen was first mentioned in documents in 1258 in connection with the St. Katharinen Church. The noblemen of Grimmenberg had their seat on the eastern edge of the village of Neuenkirchen . This family, which belonged to the non-princely high nobility, flourished in the 12th and 13th centuries. She died out with Friedrich von Grimmenberg around 1259/66 in the male line. His rule then came to the Counts of Oldenburg-Bruchhausen (Grafschaft Altbruchhausen (today Bruchhausen-Vilsen )), who passed to the County of Hoya in the middle of the 14th century .
