history

Place name

Former place names of Affinghausen were Affenhusen in 1124, Offinghusen in 1265 and Affinghusen in 1330. A convincing interpretation is that it is about the settlement of the people or the clan of the Affo or Agifo (plus old first names like Agafrid, Agefrid, Agfrid, Egfrid, Egfried, Afried or Aifred). The first part of the name probably comes from corner or harrow as "point (of the sword)".

Affinghausen coat of arms
Blazon : “In the divided shield in the upper part in gold a green bickberry twig with blue berries. Down in gold and black gest changes the so-called shifted Cross (Burgundy Cross) the county Bruchhausen. "
Foundation of the coat of arms: Affinghausen used to belong to the county or to the office of Bruchhausen . This is indicated by the displaced cross. The branch with the berries indicates the strong ties to Bremen: The residents used to sell all kinds of agricultural products in the Hanseatic city and were therefore jokingly referred to as Bickbeernbuern (especially because of the sale of blueberries) .
