Rehden is a municipality and the seat of the integrated municipality Rehden in the Lower Saxony district of Diepholz . Rehden is of supraregional importance due to the Wingas underground gas storage facility , which is the largest in Western Europe with 4 billion m³.

Rehden is located north of the Dümmer Nature Park and the Rehden Geestmoors and south of the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park . It is located between Bremen in the north and Osnabrück in the southwest and east of Diepholz and west of the Kellenberg . The community is divided into Lohaus, Düversbruch (see Jochen-Hilmar von Wuthenau ) and Rehdener-Fladder.

The nature reserves Rehdener Geestmoor and Rehdener Geestmoor regeneration area in the south of the municipality together cover approx. 1,800 hectares.

history

Rehden is very old; because already in the period from 854 to 877 a nobleman named Belo owned it. Also the monastery Corvey talked in very early times in this space agencies. A branch of the DRK rescue station in Diepholz is located in Rehden. The Rehden community has a senior citizen center and an outpatient nursing station run by the DRK.

In the community there is, among other things, the Rehden 1924 shooting club and a youth and children's fire department at the local Rehden volunteer fire department. The regional league team BSV Rehden plays in Rehden .
There is a street basketball field, a skater facility and a small sports field on the forest sports facilities.
A three-field sports hall on Dickeler Straße is available to all clubs.

A larger company is the Gazprom subsidiary Astora . The underground natural gas storage facility at a depth of around 2000 meters in Rehden is the largest in Western Europe with a capacity of over four billion cubic meters and an area of eight square kilometers and has around a fifth of the total storage capacity available in Germany. The storage facility has been managed by Astora since 2012.

The buildings and the grounds of a former munitions plant (Muna) of the Wehrmacht and later the Bundeswehr are now used by BTR-Logistik, a vehicle transport company. In the last few years, other companies in the metal processing, automotive, pipe and food industries have settled in the industrial area on the B 214.

Through the federal highway 214 (Lingen-Diepholz-Nienburg) and the federal highway 239 (Rehden-Wagenfeld-Herford) as well as several state and district roads, the municipality is well connected to the regional and supra-local transport network. On the B 214 to reach the 25 km away junction of the A1 in Holdorf . A freight railway line ( Diepholz – Sulingen ) runs through the community.
