The R + V Versicherung AG ( R aiffeisen- and V olksbanken insurance) is one of the largest insurance companies in Germany and the parent company of the R + V Group with headquarters in Wiesbaden in Hesse . It holds a majority, directly or indirectly, in the primary insurance companies of the R + V Group and belongs to the cooperative financial network of the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks e. V. (BVR). At the same time, it is the central reinsurer of the primary insurance companies of R + V. It also operates independently on the international reinsurance market .

Company history

In 1922 the Raiffeisen Allgemeine Versicherungsgesellschaft a. G. and Raiffeisen Lebensversicherungsbank a. G. founded in Berlin. Both companies were linked by a personal union. The founding members at the time were Erich Seelmann-Eggebert , Eduard Jungblut, Wilhelm Kammann and Baron Magnus von Braun .

In 1932 the insurance merged with Regeno Versicherung . Regeno means fellow empire. This came from the Reich Association of German Agricultural Cooperatives. V., which was founded by Wilhelm Haas . The name of the insurance group then changed to Regeno-Raiffeisen Versicherung .

In 1934 the Rheinische Pferde- und Viehversicherung a. G. zu Cologne and the new Raiffeisen pension fund in 1924 were included in the association. In the same year, the name was changed to Deutscher Bauerndienst insurance companies due to the fact that it was brought into line and integrated into the Reichsnährstand under National Socialism .

After the Second World War in 1946, due to the isolation of West Berlin , the headquarters were relocated to the Schliefhof in Niederwalluf , which led to the establishment of the West Department. In 1948 after the currency reform , however, this seat was relocated and the company moved to Wiesbaden. In the same year the name was changed to Raiffeisendienst Insurance Companies .

In 1952 the institute for reinsurance of German animal insurance associations a. G. , which was renamed Rhein-Main Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft AG in 1955 . The shares for this were acquired from the funds of the Reichsnährstand.

In 1958, a framework agreement was concluded with the commercial central banks , which today exist as Volksbanks . Then the name was changed to Raiffeisen- und Volksbanken Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG or Raiffeisen- und Volksbanken Lebensversicherung a. G. changed. In 1973 this name was abbreviated and the insurance company has operated under the name R + V Versicherung AG since then .

R + V Rechtsschutzversicherung AG was founded on March 19, 1985 . Legal protection insurance, however, was not new to the group. As early as 1962, the parent company received a license from the Federal Insurance Supervisory Office to sell motor vehicle criminal law insurance. On June 25, 1987, the Süddeutsche Krankenversicherung a. G. founded R + V Krankenversicherung AG . For the first time, the core lines of property, life and health insurance were comprehensively covered. In 1989 R + V Lebensversicherung AG was re-established, which R + V Lebensversicherung a. G. partially replaced.

In 1990 the insurance groups were restructured and brought together under the umbrella of R + V Versicherung Holding AG . In 1994, however, the holding company merged with Rhein-Main Rückversicherungsgesellschaft AG and the holding company has since then also operated under the name R + V Versicherung AG .

In 1996 R + V Luxembourg Lebensversicherung SA was founded, which covers unit-linked life insurance, as this was not possible at the time under German law.

In 1997, R + V-Versicherung took part in the establishment of the Active Citizenship Association . In addition, the branch office of R + V Re was opened in Singapore.

In 1999 there was a merger with KRAVAG insurance in Hamburg and the foundation of the special insurance company KRAVAG-LOGISTIC Versicherungs-AG . The latter insures trucks and other heavy business. In the same year the R + V Versicherungsbetriebs-GmbH was founded.

In 2001 the compertis consulting company for operational pension management mbH was founded, one year later the R + V Pensionsfonds AG . In the same year, the structure of the group was changed due to the new R + V Komposit Holding GmbH and R + V Personen Holding GmbH . In 2004 a pension fund was founded, which operates under the name R + V Pensionskasse AG . This was incorporated into Optima Pensionskasse AG in 2014 . R + V Service Holding GmbH was finally founded in 2005 . At the end of 2007, ChemiePensionsfonds AG was acquired by R + V.

R + V Impectis AG was founded on January 9, 2008 and renamed R + V Direktversicherung on June 27, 2008 , through which the sale of direct motor vehicle insurance under the R + V24 brand began on August 14, 2008 .

In September 2008, Dr. August Oetker KG from Condor Versicherung and sold it to R + V Versicherung.

Most of the products are sold in more than 13,500 branches of the Volksbank and Raiffeisenbanken, which are supported by R + V sales representatives. In addition, R + V has its own network of general agencies and main agencies. Additional sales channels are insurance brokers , road transport cooperatives and the other partners in the cooperative financial network. At the end of 2008, direct sales of motor vehicle insurance on the Internet also started via the newly founded R + V Direktversicherung AG under the R + V24 brand.
