State roads in Thuringia

The state roads in Thuringia emerged from the former district roads of the German Democratic Republic . These district roads were referred to as country roads - not state roads - and were divided into state roads I and II. The official abbreviations LIO and LIIO were used.

These previous district roads were in Thuringia acc. Section 52, Paragraph 1 of the Thuringian Roads Act of May 3, 1993 renamed Landesstraßen. The old classification was initially retained, with the proviso that the state roads from the 1st order became the state roads from the L 1000 and the state roads from the 2nd order became the state roads from the L 2000 . The digits of the country roads from the Erfurt district remained the same after the leading 1 or 2 after the possible insertion of missing zeros. For example, LIO 27 became L 1027 of the state of Thuringia and LIIO 27 of the Erfurt district became L 2027 . In the second order state roads, the number was increased by 300 in the Gera district and by 600 in the Suhl district . For example, LIIO 27 in the Gera district became state road L 2327 and LIIO 27 in the Suhl district became state road L 2627 .

There are also other state roads whose number begins with the number 3 . These are mostly state roads that were newly built in Thuringia after the state was formed. They are primarily former federal highways that were downgraded to state roads, especially after the completion of the autobahn. For these streets, the former federal street number is listed in the state street number. In order to keep the four-digit number, missing positions are filled with a 0 . For example, the former federal road became the new L 3080 state road .

After 1993, a large part of the Thuringian state roads were downgraded because their traffic significance or their state of development no longer corresponded to the classification. Roads partially closed to public traffic were classified as 1st order state roads. These graded state roads can be found in the (incomplete) list of former state roads in Thuringia .
