history

Neusiss was first mentioned in a document on November 5, 1427. Up until 1688, various (hereditary) disputes, particularly between the Henneberg families, led to frequent changes of rule. After that, Neusiß belonged to the office of Ilmenau in the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach until 1920 .

In 1994 Neusiß came to the Ilm district. Until its dissolution, the community belonged to the Geratal administrative community based in Geraberg . On January 1, 2019, Neusiß was incorporated into Plaue.

Buildings

Building group in the town center

The Protestant church is a hall church from 1841 and replaced a chapel. It was restored from 1991–93 in terms of monument preservation. The building has a recessed west tower and a polygonal apse . The tower has a flat, slate hood and a lantern . Inside is a flat wooden ceiling. A quarter of a circular barrel is located on the north and south sides of the two-storey galleries . The lower gallery is led around on the west side.

In the basic mill not far from the village, grain was ground into flour until 1956 . As early as 1703, she had the right to coerce several villages in the area.

As part of the village renewal program , the new house of the volunteer fire brigade was built in 1998 . In this year, a modern small fire engine replaced the previous outdated extinguishing technology.

The building, erected as a schoolhouse in 1698 and rebuilt and expanded in 1908, served as a school building until 1973. Since this year the children from Neusissen have been attending the school in Plaue. The former municipal administration moved into the schoolhouse. Since then, the school room has been used as a cultural space for events and meetings and is available as a village community center after the renovation.

Monuments

Neusiss Church

In addition to the church already mentioned, there are two listed village fountains in Neusiß , one of which is still in operation. Before the construction of the high-pressure water pipeline in 1901/02, to which all houses were connected, the wells were of elementary importance as water points and cattle troughs. The fountain in the Hinterdorf was made from a single boulder. Both fountains are decorated with the landmarks of the Henneberg and Saxon royal houses.

Three memorials commemorate those who fell in the wars of 1870–1871 (2 names, park), 1914–1918 (10 names, Lindenplatz) and 1939–1945 (30 names, community cemetery). The memorial stone erected on November 15, 1998 in the cemetery in Neusiß was erected in memory of the "fallen sons of the Neusiss community" during the Second World War . For 40 years it was not possible to put such a memorial stone - with the fall of the Wall this problem for the relatives concerned was also solved. The plaque bears 30 names for the war years 1939 to 1945.

Parks

One of the fountains mentioned is on Lindenplatz , popularly known for short as "Die Linde". The fountain is traditionally decorated for Easter and Pentecost. Lindenplatz serves as a meeting point and venue for village festivals.

The park at the Gasthof zur Post consists of an area separated by a fence with bush and trees. Before the youth club was established, the park was a popular meeting place for young people from Neusissen.

kindergarten

As early as 1938, a kindergarten was set up in the parish hall, but it was initially only operated during the harvest season. Since most women also had a job after 1945, a new kindergarten was built between 1948 and 1950, offering all-day care. In 1995 a public playground was built on the site . All rooms in the kindergarten were renovated in 2000. At the moment not only children from Neusiss but also from neighboring communities are being looked after. The kindergarten has been closed since 2007, and the children are looked after in the neighboring community of Martinroda .

Economy and Transport

Agriculture plays a major role in Neusiss. There is no industry. Many residents commute to work in Arnstadt or Ilmenau .

Until 2004 Neusiß was located directly on the B 4 , which was expanded in 1937/38 , but has since had a bypass. After the rebuilding of the A 71 , which opened in 2003 , the B 4 was downgraded to Landstrasse 3004 on the section described and one of the two town entrances was rebuilt, the other closed. In Neusiss a road branches off to Angelroda .

societies

Since October 18, 1882 there has been a volunteer fire brigade in Neusiß , which is reinforced by the youth fire brigade founded on November 20, 1993 . The fire brigades are supported by the fire brigade association. There is also an active youth fire brigade.

The Reitverein Neusiß , founded on April 24, 1963, took many hours to create a park-like riding facility, where the Thuringia Derby attracted numerous visitors for many years in May . Since the organization of this event has been transferred to other locations, the Neusisser riding arena can no longer fulfill its actual task. In 2008 and 2009, the earlier tradition was revived by the Neusisser Horse Days .

The dog sports club Neusiß , founded on April 7, 1979, has a large sports area with a club house built in 1981 and expanded in 1997. Since 1991 there has been an association partnership with the association for dog breeding and sport Herrenberg und Umgebung e. V. , which is cultivated in particular at the annual meeting of the two clubs. The annual tournament dog sport competition is an important attraction for many Thuringian dog athletes. In addition, protection and companion dog tests take place twice a year.

The Neusiß fire brigade association forms a central point in the community life of Neusiß for almost all festive events in the village. The association organizes the annual summer festival and takes on the Easter decoration of all village fountains.
