Kleinbreitenbach is a district of the town of Plaue in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ) with around 300 inhabitants.
geography
The village is located in the Kleinbreitenbacher Kessel , a valley basin between the Geratal in the west and the Reinsbergen in the east. In the Kleinbreitenbacher Kessel there is an atypical flora and fauna for Thuringia, the basis of which is formed by the above-average warm and dry shell limestone slopes. So here come z. B. also present plants that are otherwise missing in the area and are native to the Main or the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland . The three-kilometer-long Breitenbach flows through the Kleinbreitenbach basin. It flows into the Gera in Plaue, about 1.5 kilometers north-west. Kleinbreitenbach is about 350 meters above sea level, the surrounding mountains are up to 600 meters high. There is an art hiking trail above the village .
history
Kleinbreitenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1417. The place was initially only called "Breitenbach", but the prince of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen introduced the addition Klein- around 1850 to enable a better differentiation from the town of Breitenbach, also located in this principality, later Großbreitenbach . The place belonged to the sovereignty of Schwarzburg from its first mention until 1920, when the state of Thuringia was founded. In this it was assigned to the newly formed district of Arnstadt . On July 1, 1950, the village was incorporated into the town of Plaue . Kleinbreitenbach is probably older than the documents attest, as the fortified church of the village was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. Century was built. The structure of the church is unique in the area and therefore worth seeing.

Due to its location in a valley basin that rises sharply on three sides, there is only one paved road connection from Kleinbreitenbach - to Plaue. After Reinfeld , Schmerfeld and Neusiß unpaved dirt roads lead. The closest train station is also in Plaue (approx. 900 meters from the center of Kleinbreitenbach) on the Neudietendorf – Ritschenhausen railway line , from which the line to Ilmenau branches off.
