Reinsfeld is a district of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).

geography

Reinsfeld lies in the hill plain of the upper Wipfratals , on the Gomlitz , a tributary of the Wipfra. To the west of the village rise the Reinsberge , the eastern border of the Muschelkalk formation Ohrdrufer Platte . The highest point here is the 604 meter high Reinsburg, which towers over the village by more than 150 meters. In the north, the eastern foothills of the Reinsberge and the 586 meter high Haselkoppe surround the village. The south and east of the town hall, on the other hand, is not forested and serves as agricultural land. Neighboring villages in the Wipfratal plain are Kettmannshausen in the east, Wipfra in the southeast and Schmerfeld in the south. Beyond the Reinsberge follows the town of Plaue in the west and behind the Haselkoppe in the north are Branchewinda and Dannheim . Due to the fact that it is isolated to the west and north, the climate of the village, which is 450 meters above sea level, is milder and drier than in other areas of the same altitude in central Germany.

history

Reinsfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1209. However, the settlement may have existed much earlier, as parts of the church were dated back to 989. Reinsfeld later belonged to the territory of the Counts of Schwarzburg , so that it was part of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen ( suzerainty ) until 1920 . In 1994 it became part of the newly formed municipality of Wipfratal . On January 1, 2019, Wipfratal was incorporated into Arnstadt.

Buildings

The Romanesque village church of Reinsfeld is worth seeing . It probably originated in the late 12th century, although some parts are older and were estimated to be in the year 989. The church is a fortified church whose courtyard walling is still partially preserved today. The massive west tower includes Romanesque arched windows and a slated "Thuringian hood" from the 18th century. The organ front in the interior also dates from the 18th century and is lavishly decorated. The church is part of the Protestant parish Neuroda .

On the Reinsburg not far to the west of the village there was a robber baron castle that belonged to the Counts of Käfernburg and was destroyed in 1290 by the Roman-German King Rudolf von Habsburg . Today some remains of the walls of the castle are still preserved.

A Protestant leisure home has been located in Reinsfeld since 1976.

Economy and Transport

Reinsfeld is an agricultural place. Larger commercial settlements are located in the nearby towns of Arnstadt and Ilmenau .

The village is bordered by mountains to the west and north, which is why there are only traffic routes to the south and east. These are the roads to the neighboring villages of Schmerfeld in the south, Wipfra in the southeast, Kettmannshausen in the east and Branchewinda in the northeast. Arnstadt is about ten kilometers north and Ilmenau about ten kilometers south. The distance on the road to Kleinbreitenbach , two kilometers to the west, is 18 kilometers.
