Dannheim is a district of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).

geography

Village church of St. Boniface

Dannheim is in the foreland of the Thuringian Forest about five kilometers southeast of Arnstadt on the eastern edge of the wooded Reinsberge , while the areas east of the village are used for agriculture. The town hall has an area of 6.47 km². The town center is 377 meters above sea level .

On the south-western outskirts there is the Schenne, a so-called source of hunger , which only breaks open at certain times, but sometimes with a loud roar. The reason for this is to be found in the filling cavities of the limestone subsoil .

The 1200 square meter Dannheimer pond located on the northern edge of the village is declared as a natural monument because it is of particular importance as spawning water for four endangered amphibian species.

history

The first written mention of the place as Tanaheim dates back to the second half of the 8th century, although an exact year cannot be determined to this day. Names of places and fields indicate that there was a monastery here in the Middle Ages . The associated monastery courtyard was converted into a manor of the Lords of Marschall after the Reformation . This existed until it was bought by 18 residents of the community in 1811. The house, known as the castle , then fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1848. The school, which is now used as a residential building, was built in 1781. The most striking building in the village, the Evangelical Church of St. Bonifatius , was built on a hill on the western edge of the village from 1774 to 1778, with a bell from 1517. The transformer station built in 1926 in the course of the electrification of Dannheim on the south-eastern edge of the village is now a listed building. Until 1920, Dannheim belonged to the Arnstadt office in the sovereignty of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . The place was in 1994 in the municipality of Wipfratal , in whose center it was. On January 1, 2019, Wipfratal was incorporated into Arnstadt.

In the 1990s, the church, which was closed in 1959 due to dilapidation, was reconstructed and reopened. During this time, the rectory and the adjacent stable house of the former cloister courtyard were also restored. The owners of the latter received the Thuringian Monument Protection Prize for this in 2000 .

Economy and Transport

Dannheim is an agricultural place. Today, many Dannheimers work in Arnstadt , but there are also some smaller craft and service companies in the village.

The village is on the road 1047 from Arnstadt to Gehren . A local connection route leads over the Reinsberge to Siegelbach . The nearest train station is in Arnstadt, five kilometers away.
