Neuroda is a district of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ) with almost 200 inhabitants on an area of 5.12 km².

geography

Neuroda is located on a hill promontory that rises to about 460 meters in the southwest, drops to the Wipfra valley in the north and to a meadow bottom leading to the south in the east. The village is about 400 meters above sea level in the hilly foreland of the Thuringian Forest on the Paulinzellaer red sandstone slab . In the area, forests (mostly pine), meadows and fields alternate. East of the village is the 476 meter high Sandberg , which the high-speed line Nuremberg – Erfurt crosses with the 1320 meter long Sandberg tunnel. On the back of the Sandberg the ramp of the federal motorway 71 runs from the Wipfratal up to the Thuringian Forest. Neighboring towns are Wipfra in the west, Traßdorf in the east and Kettmannshausen and Behringen in the north. The Heyda dam is to the southwest .

history

Neuroda was first mentioned in a document in 1378, but is probably older. Neuroda belonged to the Lords of Witzleben and was an exclave of Saxe-Gotha until 1920 , which was surrounded by Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach . From 1922, the village belonged to the Arnstadt district , from which today's Ilm district emerged. When the municipality was reformed in 1994, Neuroda became part of the newly formed municipality of Wipfratal . On January 1, 2019, Wipfratal was incorporated into Arnstadt.

Attractions

Village church

Neuroda has a relatively large church that is the seat of a Protestant parish. Affiliate churches of this parish are in Kettmannshausen , Reinsfeld , Schmerfeld , Traßdorf and Wipfra. The Church of St. Mauritius is a hall church , the core of which was built around 1300. In the 14th century the nave was raised and the church was rebuilt between 1720 and 1724. In 1738 it was damaged in a fire and restored by Johann Erhard Straßburger until 1740 . The tower structure of today also dates from this time. The altar dates from around 1750; the organ was built in 1742/1743 by the Erfurt organ builder Johann Georg Schröter .

Economy and Transport

Neuroda is an agricultural place with no major industrial and commercial settlements.

Ilmenau is about ten kilometers south of the village and Arnstadt about twelve kilometers north. Roads connect Neuroda with Wipfra in the west and Behringen or the Behringer Schenke in the north. Buses run to the surrounding villages and the district town of Arnstadt.
