history

planning

In 1996 the planned length of the tunnel was 1320 m.

construction

Construction work on the double-shell tunnel began in July 2000 from the north. The tunnel was excavated using shotcrete construction over a length of 1280 m . An open construction method was used over a length of 40 m. The breakthrough in the south took place in May 2001, the inner shell was made between June 2001 and May 2002. With the completion of the rescue areas, the shell construction was completed in August 2002.

The excavated cross-section was around 126 m² with a usable cross-section of 92 m². The two-layer inner shell was executed in block lengths of 12.5 m, with deviations on both portals.

The volume of tunnel water was low at around 0.45 l / s.

On April 8, 2017, a rescue exercise with around 300 rescue workers took place in the tunnel.

security concept

According to the tunnel guideline of the Federal Railway Authority , the tunnel structure u. a. via rescue stations at both portals and an emergency exit at kilometer 161.603. This leads to the outside via a 95 m long tunnel and a shaft and is equipped with a lock and storage space. Extinguishing water tanks with a volume of 100 m³ each were erected at the rescue areas .
