The Lohmeberg tunnel is a 688 m long railway tunnel on the new Ebensfeld – Erfurt line in the area of Gehren in Thuringia . It is part of a chain of tunnels in which the route falls from the apex of the route in the Thuringian Forest to the Ilm valley near Ilmenau .

The structure crosses under the Lohmeberg with various forest areas with a covering of up to 60 m and therefore bears his name.

Location and course

The gradient drops continuously to the north. The structure lies between the route kilometers 149.538 and 150.226.

To the north, after a short above-ground section with three short bridges, the Tragberg tunnel joins the structure, and to the south the Schobsetalbrücke and the Brandkopf tunnel .

There is a weather station at the northern portal.

history

The structure is part of the Northern Thuringian Forest construction section , which also includes the Brandkopf Tunnel, the Wohlrosetal Bridge and the Schobsetal Bridge. The construction of the 2.8 km long construction section was awarded at the end of May 2009 to a consortium of the companies Arbeitsgemeinschaft Bilfinger Berger Ingenieurbau , Max Bögl and Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau.

With the material excavated 2.8 kilometers west lying in Schobsegrund was opencast mine Thiemtal ( "" 48 ° 50 38  N , 27 10 ° 56 ' "  O ) filled in the above- fluorite was recovered.

The structure was knocked through on May 17, 2011 as the tenth of the 14 tunnels on the new line in Thuringia .
