history

The structure is part of construction section 3212 of the new line. The construction contract for the 2.3 km long section, which also includes the Masserberg tunnel , the Dunkeltalbrücke, the Rehtalbrücke and earthworks, was tendered across Europe in May 2009. The contract will run from February 1, 2010 to March 31, 2013.

The tunnel was inaugurated as the penultimate of the 14 tunnels of the new line in Thuringia 14 May 2011 struck . The neighboring Masserberg tunnel was officially broken through on the same day . The technical breakthrough was in August 2011.

Over a length of 562 m, the structure was constructed using mining techniques. The two portal structures were built above, each 20 m long using the open construction method. With an excavated cross-section of up to around 160 m², up to 117,000 m³ of excavated material was produced, which was stored in the Masserberg landfill ( 50 ° 31 ′ 58 ″  N , 10 ° 59 ′ 57 ″  E ).

The Oberweißbacher mountain railway queen Sylvia Potreck acted as tunnel sponsor.

Completion was planned for 2013. The planned investment is 13 million euros.
