The Feuerfelsen tunnel is a 1043 meter long tunnel on the new Ebensfeld – Erfurt line between the route kilometers 105.058 and 106.101. The building passes below, with a maximum overlap of 30 meters, about four kilometers east of Coburg center, after the districts Lützelbuch and Rögen the Bundesautobahn 73 with a local road overpass and a ridge, the agate or fire rock, a natural monument is composed predominantly of a dolomite Arkose , a relic from the sandstone Keuper.

The tube is part of construction section 3121 (also known as the Coburg Ost traffic project) of the new line, which lies between construction kilometers 19.130 and 24.895 and also includes the Rennberg tunnel , the Kiengrund bridge and three bridge structures as well as the earthworks on the open section. The award package to the working group Tunnel Feuerfelsen / Rennberg had an order value of 82 million euros. Construction began in autumn 2010 and the planned completion was in 2013. The cost of the building is around 28 million euros.

The tunnel was solemnly at Lützelbuch 4 December 2010 struck . The breakthrough at Rögen followed on June 25, 2011. The tunnel sponsorship took Ilse pressing, the wife of the Mayor of Rödental .

Construction work

The tunnel runs in rock formations of the Lower and Middle Burgsandsteins as well as in the Coburg and Blasensandstein of the Middle Keuper . It was driven mechanically with a tunnel excavator, partly also with blasting, from the southern portal. The cross-section was divided into a dome, bench and bottom and secured with a shotcrete lining according to the new Austrian tunnel construction method. The tunnel excavation totaled approximately 244,000 m³, which was stored at the Ziegenrück landfill ( 50 ° 14 ′ 58 ″  N , 11 ° 1 ′ 22 ″  E ), located near the south portal. The inner tunnel shell was made starting from the south portal. The cut in the terrain in front of the southern tunnel portal was fenced off.

Rescue concept

The tunnel has emergency exits at the route kilometers 105.494 and 105.601, which are connected to the Haaresgrund via an accessible rescue tunnel. At the two rescue areas in front of the portals there is a structure with two roller pallets.
