Rödental is a town in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg with around 13,000 inhabitants and is located about seven kilometers northeast of the city center of Coburg on the Bavarian Porcelain Route .

geography

Rödental lies in the foothills of the Thuringian Forest and already has a clear low mountain range character (306–506 m above sea level ). Except for cleared areas , the area is characterized by extensive deciduous forests ; In the last centuries larger spruce and pine trees were planted as part of intensified forest management . Most of the settlement areas extend along the rivers Itz and Röden . The city got its name from the latter.

The Einberger Forest is also known as Einberger Switzerland due to its distinctive rocky areas and gorges .

City structure

The community of Rödental came into being when Einberg , Kipfendorf , Mönchröden , Oeslau , Rothenhof and Unterwohlsbach were merged on January 1, 1971 . After that, Rödental grew in several steps through incorporation.

Rödental has the following 16 districts:

Oeslau, Mönchröden and Einberg form the city center. In the southeast are the districts of Rothenhof, Kipfendorf and Blumenrod. In the south are Spittelstein and Waldsachen. In the west Oberwohlsbach and Unterwohlsbach. In the north are Waltersdorf, Mittelberg, Fischbach, Fornbach, Schönstädt and Weißenbrunn vorm Wald.

Thierach, which belonged to Kipfendorf, and Theißenstein, which belonged to Spittelstein, are officially named parts of the municipality, but are not run as a district by the city of Rödental.

In the city center on the Bürgerplatz there is a fountain in front of the town hall on which all 16 districts are written.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are clockwise: Schalkau , Frankenblick , Neustadt bei Coburg , Ebersdorf , Coburg , Dörfles-Esbach and Lautertal .

climate

The Rödental climate is characterized by its location between the upper Main Valley in the south and the Thuringian Forest in the north. It is also influenced by the valley location. The summers are relatively warm, but mild winters prevent the proximity to the Thuringian Forest.

The annual mean temperature is around 8.9 ° C, the mean daytime temperature is −1.4 ° C in January and 17.2 ° C in July. On average there are five hot days, 36 summer days and 28 ice days per year . Every year there is an average of 747 mm of precipitation, distributed relatively evenly over the months. There are maxima in June with 82 mm and in December with 73 mm. There is an average of more than 1.0 mm of precipitation every third day.

history

Rödental was created on January 1, 1971 through the amalgamation of six municipalities as part of the Bavarian regional reform . Some districts can look back on more than 850 years of history.

In the decades that followed, the new Rödental-Mitte center was built with various central facilities in the larger community. Among other things, an indoor swimming pool was inaugurated in 1972 (renovation in 2011), a fire station in 1973, the town hall in 1977 and the Franz-Goebel-Halle, a multiple hall for school and club sports, in 1978.

Parts of the town hall have since been renovated and inaugurated in early 2018.

On September 23, 1988 Rödental received city rights .
