Oberwohlsbach is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Rödental in the Coburg district .

Oberwohlsbach lies on a mountainside on the banks of the Itz . It is the southern slope of the Spitzberg, an extension of the Hohe Schwenge in the southern Thuringian Forest . The ruins of the Lauterburg are located above the village .

The so-called Froschgrund is located north of Oberwohlsbach in the Itz valley .

The Lauterburg desert has belonged to Oberwohlsbach since July 1, 1869 .

history

The settlement was first mentioned in 1317 as "Obern Wolfeswac". Wac meant moving water in Middle High German , but also puddle.

In 1445 2 and in 1618 22 able-bodied men lived in the village.

In 1845, Oberwohlsbach and Unterwohlsbach built a school house that was demolished in 1971. A new school building was consecrated on January 2, 1965, and a new school association was founded in 1967 with Oeslau . Land consolidation was carried out from 1968 to 1982 .

The village was incorporated into the city of Rödental on January 1, 1972.

From 1497 to 1997 beer was brewed in Oberwohlsbach, originally in a tavern in "Haus am Berg". From the 1850s the brewery was called Lauterburgbräu, and its beer was served in the Zur Lauterburg inn. In 1997 the small brewery was closed.

Oberwohlsbach is not far from the Rödental – Schalkau state road . The new Ebensfeld – Erfurt line is being built to the northwest of the town . Via the Rödental bypass ( Bundesstrasse 4 ), which runs in the valley between Unter- and Oberwohlsbach, Oberwohlsbach has a connection to the federal motorway 73 with the Neustadt bei Coburg exit . The Rödental city bus connects Oberwohlsbach with the train station and the town center.

Events

On April 30th every year the so-called Maypole Festival takes place in the center of Oberwohlsbach, on the following public holiday the Lauterburgfest takes place on the ruins above the village.
