Fischbach is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Rödental in the Coburg district .

geography

Fischbach is located eleven kilometers northeast of Coburg in the Itztal . The district boundary in the north corresponds to the Bavarian state border with Thuringia . The left Itz tributary Fischbach flows through the village. The state road St 2206 from Rödental to the Thuringian border leads west past Fischbach. The district road CO 14 to Neustadt bei Coburg begins in the village , from which a road branches off to the Thuringian Rückerswind . There is also a community road going west to Fornbach .

history

The first documentary mention of Fischbach is in a letter from Bamberg Bishop Eberhard from 1162 after a border dispute between the monastery of Banz and Hermann Graf von Wolveswach (Wohlsbach). Fischbach was named as the border point of the Banz monastery area. The monastery Mönchröden owned an estate in the place.

At the beginning of the 14th century, Fischbach belonged to the domain of the Henneberger . In 1353 the place came with the Coburg Land by inheritance to the Wettins and from 1485 was part of the Electorate of Saxony , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged.

In 1508 five men fit for military service lived in Fischbach. Ninety years later, at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War in 1618 , there were eight. By 1650 the number dropped to three. The number of Sölden fell from eight to three in the same period. Two thirds of the fields and meadows were desolate.

Fischbach, also written “Vischbach”, had 29 inhabitants in 1783 who lived in nine houses. The place was mostly the Kammergut Schönstadt lehnbar and belonged to the court Lauter . From the 19th century onwards, the children attended school in neighboring Mittelberg. In 1909 the community built a bakery. The Leonardsmühle an der Itz produced stone marbles (marbles) from 1885 to 1939.

In a referendum on November 30, 1919, two Fischbach citizens voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 52 against. From July 1, 1920, Fischbach belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

On April 11, 1945, American troops entered the village. They came from Fornbach, crossed the Itz in Schönstadt and moved on to Höhn . After the Second World War, the direct location on the inner-German border shaped the place until 1989 .

On January 1, 1971, Fischbach merged with the towns of Fornbach, Mittelberg , Schönstädt , Waltersdorf and Weißenbrunn vorm Wald to form the new Froschgrund community, which was forcibly dissolved on May 1, 1978 and incorporated into the town of Rödental . Since then, Fischbach has been a district of Rödental.
