geography

Einberg is located on a flat south-east slope between the Röden valley and the Einberger Wald, around seven kilometers northeast of Coburg. The center and historical core of the place is a steeply rising Kirchberg, the Glockenberg. The highest elevation of the Einberger Wald is the Kieferberg at 406 meters, about 100 meters higher than the Röden. Due to the distinctive rocky areas and gorges, the forest area is also known as Einberger Schweiz.

history

Two-storey saddle roof building from the 18th / 19th centuries Century, in the area of the abandoned Upper Castle

The first mention of the settlement "jvvenberg", from which today's Einberg developed, comes from the year 1162. "Sigifrit" and "Heinrich de jvvenberg" were mentioned in a document from Bishop Eberhard II of Bamberg by Hermann Sterker, Burgrave of Meißen , appointed mediators in a dispute over the limits of ecclesiastical property.

The lords of the small fortified estate on Einberg were country nobles. The members of the Kranich family were named as feudal people of the Counts of Henneberg in 1317 . In 1338 the Hofer family was mentioned as a fiefdom holder, the Saalfeld monastery was the fiefdom . The Lords of Schaumburg are documented as owners of the estate from 1378. From 1429 to 1588 the von Coburg family, a wealthy knight dynasty, were owners and from 1498 lived on the manor, which in 1505 was divided into the upper courtyard, the castle and the lower courtyard. During the Reformation in 1531 the feudal rights fell to the sovereign rulers who ruled the Coburg region.

In 1598 the Junker Ernst von Bach, lord of the Neuhof estate, acquired the Einberg manor from Duke Johann Casimir . In 1620 the von Hanstein family took over the property, which was mostly leased, for two centuries. In 1630 the settlement comprised 31 buildings, which stood on the Glockenberg around the church, the cemetery and the castle as well as with the Happachsmühle on the Röden. In 1634, 23 buildings, including the castle, were destroyed in the Thirty Years' War . After a century, Einberg had regained its former size.

In 1811 the fiefdom was converted into hereditary property and in 1833 the estate was sold by Ludwig and Alexander von Hanstein to the Coburg office of Friedrich August Briegleb. The dilapidated castle was demolished in 1831. After Moriz Adolph Briegleb took over the property in 1851, the sale of the property to the people of Einberg began. The forests were sold to the ducal domain treasury. In 1925, the heirs still owned a house and half of the former palace garden, which were also sold in 1957/58.

In the 20th century, the Annawerk founded in 1857 and the porcelain factory W. Goebel opened in 1871 in neighboring Oeslau were the largest employers for the Einberg population.

Parish

A church was built in Einberg around 1200 as a branch of the original parish of Fechheim . 1529 was the first Protestant visitation and around 1531 Einberg became a parish office. The parish includes the Rödental districts of Einberg, Waldsachsen , Rothenhof , Spittelstein , Theißenstein , Kipfendorf and Thierach . Subsidiary communities were Mönchröden, which in 1912, and Oeslau, which was raised to an independent parish in 1950. After silk Mannsdorf were ausgepfarrt 1839 Rögen and 1,979 new and Neershof . In 2010 the community had 2,800 members.

school

Around 1590 the first school building opposite the church was put into operation. The students came from the parishes of the parish. A new school house was inaugurated in 1855. Between 1875 and 1901, the other communities left the school association and built their own schools. Further school buildings and extensions followed in 1932, 1963 and 1966. In the 1960s, an association school was set up with year groups and 370 pupils. After Rödental was founded, the Einberger Schule was a six-class elementary and partial secondary school and since 2004 it has only been attended by elementary school students.

St. Mary's Church

The core of St. Mary's Church was built in the 13th century. It consists of a nave and a somewhat retracted choir extension. A pointed gable roof with a distinctive roof turret forms the end . During the reconstruction of the church, which was probably damaged by fire in the first half of the 15th century, a Gothic choir vault was inserted, and in the second half of the 15th century the choir was decorated with Gothic frescoes. A thorough restoration was carried out from 1946 to 1952. In the 1950s, the Munich painter Rudolf Büder designed the nave with a ceiling painting and gallery paintings.
