The Röthen (in Bavaria: Röden ) is a 25 kilometers long, left tributary of the Itz in southern Thuringia and Upper Franconia .

The Röthen rises near the Wiefelsburg, one between Steinach and hammers located Einödgehöft . From the source on the southern roof of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the Sonneberg district , the Röthen flows through the Röthengrund to the south through the city of Sonneberg and across the border to Upper Franconia . While maintaining the Itzgründischen pronunciation "Rüed'n" in Upper Franconia the official spelling changes to Röden . The Röden flows through Neustadt and Rödental . It flows into the Itz in Rödental .
