Moriz Adolph Briegleb

Moriz Adolph Briegleb (born November 10, 1809 in Coburg , † April 28, 1872 in Berlin ) was a German politician .

After studying law at the universities of Jena and Heidelberg , Briegleb began a legal career in 1832 as a court lawyer in Coburg. From 1837 to 1872 he lived in the city as a lawyer . In Jena he became a member of the Germania fraternity in 1832 .

From 1842 to 1851 he was a member of the state parliament of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . Briegleb was charged with high treason and lese majesty in 1843 because of his political statements , but acquitted in 1844. In 1846 he became head of the Coburg city council. He was a delegate in the pre-parliament and a member of the Committee of Fifties , of which he was secretary.

He represented Saxony-Coburg and Gotha in the Frankfurt National Assembly from May 18, 1848 to May 20, 1849 . He was a member of the important constitutional committee . He advocated the constitutional monarchy in Germany under Prussia's leadership. Briegleb was a member of the Imperial Deputation , in May 1849 briefly Reich Commissioner for Saxony and in 1850 belonged to the Erfurt Union Parliament .

From 1851 he was in the service of the Belgian King Leopold I , whose general representative for German possessions and rights he became in 1859. From 1862 he performed the same task for the British Queen Victoria , from 1863 additionally for her son Prince Alfred (later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha) and from 1868 also for Leopold II of Belgium .

From 1871 until his death he was a member of the Reichstag for the National Liberal Party for Saxe-Coburg-Gotha .
