The Wöhner GmbH & Co. KG is the electrical engineering division, the products for distribution and control of electrical energy produces a company and sells. The group's headquarters are in Rödental in Upper Franconia near Coburg (Bavaria). The Wöhner Group comprises eleven subsidiaries and a joint venture. The company has agencies and business relationships in almost 80 countries around the world. The chairman of the board is Frank Wöhner, the grandson of the company founder.
history
Wöhner was founded in 1929 with the opening of an electrotechnical assembly company in Alfred Wöhner's house. In 1953, Klaus Wöhner, the founder's son, joined the company as a partner. Under his leadership, Wöhner developed the 60 mm busbar system technology (1980) and the first busbar adapter (1986). In 1994 Frank Wöhner took over management of the company from his father. Frank Wöhner is responsible in particular for the expansion of international sales in important markets in Europe (Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, UK) and overseas (USA, China, India) and the development of the CROSSLINK ® technology (2009). Today he is the sole managing partner of the Wöhner Group.
Product developments
In 1934, Wöhner developed a compact fuse base that enables its user to replace fuses without risk. In 1980 the company brought 60 mm busbar system technology onto the market. The innovative performance of the 60 mm system lies in its flexible usability: a wide range of individual components (e.g. fuse holders, switch disconnectors, circuit breakers, clamping technology) can be added to the rail system by simply snapping them on. The devices are mechanically assembled and electrically contacted at the same time in just one operation. This development is still the core business of the Wöhner Group today. In 2009, another product family of the company's own research and development department was ready for the market: the CROSSLINK ® technology, which enables the safe, touch- protected exchange of power distribution components during operation.
Wöhner products are made available in the two electrical engineering standards that dominate the world market ( IEC , UL). The EQUES ® adapter technology developed by Wöhner enables components that are not part of the system, such as B. circuit breakers or motor outlets, space and time-saving assembly and contacting on busbar systems. Wöhner products are still manufactured in Germany today.
design
The company's product manual was awarded the "German Prize for Communication Design " in 1995 (now renamed the red dot design award ).
sustainability
In addition to products for the classic electrical energy sector, Wöhner also develops and sells solutions for the renewable energies segment . In 2010, for example, a special fuse holder for photovoltaic systems was presented. According to the company, the energy requirements at the company's headquarters are to be covered by renewable energies in the future.
Worldwide sales
Due to its international orientation, the Wöhner Group is one of the 180 fastest-growing German medium-sized companies, the so-called “growth champions”, according to a study by the IKB Bank (Handelsblatt of July 14, 2008): “Even small companies established a global sales organization at an early stage. and established a production network. Wöhner GmbH ... for example, a specialist in control technology, is comparatively small with sales of around 50 million euros, but is now represented in 60 countries. ”Wöhner can therefore also be described as a hidden champion .
In 2011 there were Wöhner branches in 80 countries around the world.
