Dörfles-Esbach is a municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg .

geography

The neighboring municipality of Dörfles-Esbach is about five kilometers northeast of Coburg . It is located on a clay ridge north of the Itztal .

Community structure

The community is divided into two districts:

history

Esbach was first mentioned in 1149 as Groß-Espe, while Dörfles was first mentioned in a document in 1317. The communities belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha until 1918 and came to Bavaria as part of the Free State of Coburg in 1920 after a referendum in 1919. On January 1, 1971, Dörfles near Coburg and Esbach merged to form a unified community.

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the community grew from 3,493 to 3,591 by 98 inhabitants or 2.8%. A peak was reached on December 31, 1997 with 4,116 inhabitants.

The Coburger Kartonagenfabrik, founded in 1949 by Horst Gebler, is based in Dörfles-Esbach with around 260 employees and produces packaging in the food and non-food sectors.

The mechanical engineering company Reichenbacher Hamuel, which was founded in 1954 and belongs to the Scherdel Group, has around 170 employees (as of July 2015).

The Dörfles-Esbach stop is on the Coburg – Sonneberg railway line . Coburg is connected to the new line (Nuremberg–) Ebensfeld – Erfurt via the Dörfles-Esbach curve .

Dörfles-Esbach also has a city bus connection with neighboring Coburg . The next motorway junction to the federal highway 73 is the Rödental junction .
