Grub am Forst (officially: Grub a.Forst ) is a municipality and a place in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg and the seat of the administrative community Grub am Forst .

history
Until the move to Bavaria
The first documentary mention of Grub am Forst dates from 1288. It is a deed of donation from a mill to the Sonnefeld monastery . As part of the former Duchy of Saxony-Coburg , Grub came to Bavaria in 1920 with the Free State of Coburg after a referendum in 1919.
In 1772 the von Sandt brothers founded the blue factory in Grub am Forst, the first chemical factory in the Coburg region. The "Berlin blue " color produced was mainly used for dyeing textiles and paper. In 1809 the Holtzapfel family acquired the company. In 1972 production was stopped. In 2016, the unsealed or undeveloped areas were renovated by replacing the soil. 11,000 cubic meters of the highly polluted soil were disposed of.
On October 1, 1891, the Werra Railway stop was opened.

Population development
In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population fell from 2,890 to 2,816 by 74 or 2.6%. A peak was reached on December 31, 2000 with 3,141 inhabitants.

In 1998, according to official statistics, there were no employees at the place of work subject to social security contributions in the manufacturing sector or in trade and transport. There were a total of 1272 employees at the place of residence subject to social insurance contributions. There were four companies in the manufacturing sector and two in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 17 farms with an agricultural area of 570 hectares, of which 438 hectares were arable land.
