coat of arms
Blazon : “Above the base of the shield split by blue and gold, inside a mill wheel below in mixed colors, split; in front in gold three, one to two arranged blue flax blossoms, behind in blue a silver crook " | |
Großheirath has consisted of the formerly independent communities Großheirath and Rossach since 1978. The three flax blossoms are taken from Rossach's coat of arms from 1955; it is handed down in impressions by a municipal seal from 1792. They point to the flax cultivation that was once important in Itzgrund. The abbot's staff and the colors blue and gold come from the coat of arms of the Langheim monastery , which ruled the so-called Eigendörfer Gossenberg, Neuses an der Eichen and Watzendorf in the municipality. Today these places belong to the community of Großheirath. The mill wheel indicates the use of hydropower in the municipality along the Itz and thus represents the districts of Großheirath and Buchenrod.
