Buchenrod is a district of the Upper Franconian community Großheirath in the Coburg district .

geography

The clustered village of Buchenrod is about ten kilometers south of Coburg, west of the Itz in Itzgrund .

history

Buchenrod, whose place name is based on the clearing of a beech forest, has existed since the 9th century at the latest , but it is likely to have originated much earlier. The first written mention as "Boutene" was in a document from 1149. The year 1058 is also given with a mention in a document from the Banz monastery . However, this is based on the Codex Eberhardi , which contains forgeries and inventions.

In the Middle Ages, Buchenrod belonged to the original parish of Altenbanz . After the Reformation, from 1540, the pastor from Scherneck looked after the place; Buchenrod has belonged to the parish Großheirath since 1652. From 1353 on, Buchenrod was under the rule of the Wettins and therefore in the Electorate of Saxony since 1485. As a result, the duchy of Saxony-Coburg ruled the village.

In 1714 the two-storey community hall with the community forge was built. A brewery probably already existed around 1700. In 1795 a two-story new building with a massive basement was built. The community bakery dates from 1843 and the approximately nine meters deep community well was sunk in 1738. The school house for the Buchenroder children was in Großheirath. A fire destroyed parts of the village on February 25, 1800. In 1837 the place had 254 inhabitants.

In a referendum on November 30, 1919, three Buchenroder citizens voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 92 against. From July 1, 1920, Buchenrod also belonged to the Free State of Bavaria . In 1925 the 346.13 hectare village had 236 residents, 227 of whom belonged to the Protestant church, and 52 residential buildings. The school and the Protestant church were in Großheirath, 1.2 kilometers away.

On April 1, 1971 Buchenrod became part of the community of Großheirath.
