Petit Ried
The Petit Ried ( petit means small) has a typical landscape of the Alsatian Ried . It stretches from northern Strasbourg ( La Robertsau district, dt. Ruprechtsau ) to Lauterbourg . It forms a narrow strip along the Rhine . In the north it borders on the Outre-Forêt .
The Petit Ried can be reached with the French A35 motorway between Hœrdt and Lauterbourg and the Strasbourg – Lauterbourg railway line .
Three rivers flow into the Rhine:
In the east, the Black Forest, and especially the Hornisgrinde , stands out against the horizon.
The Petit Ried is densely populated. Many cross-border commuters live there.
Quarry ponds
Numerous quarry ponds are in operation and thus shape the landscape of the Petit Ried. There are quarry ponds in la Wantzenau , Hœrdt and Offendorf, among others . After they are shut down, the quarry ponds are used for leisure purposes such as swimming and diving (e.g. in Reichstett )
National nature reserves
The Petit Ried contains two national nature reserves, namely in
The Hagenau Forest plays an extremely important role in that it serves as a transition zone between the Northern Vosges and the Petit Ried.
Renewable energy
The starch manufacturer Roquette Frères in Beinheim is supplied with geothermal energy from the Rittershoffen geothermal cogeneration plant .
The Euro Métropole de Strasbourg is considering in the context of deep geothermal energy, geothermal energy in La Robertsau to open up
the barrages Gambsheim and Iffezheim generate electricity. In Gambsheim the electricity is fed into the French network and in Iffezheim into the German network. The river is shared between the two countries (upwards in the other barrages, the Rhine power is only developed by France).
The biogas generated by the Strasbourg- la Wantzenau sewage treatment plant is fed into the gas network.
