Schafhausen (Rödental)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schafhausen is an abandoned place in the district and former municipality of Mönchröden in the Upper Franconian town of Rödental in the Coburg district , near the current town hall of Rödental.

The core of the settlement was between Mönchröden and Oeslau at today's Gnaileser Straße. The name continues in the parallel street Schafhauser Grund.

Schafhausen was mentioned in a document in 1149 as "Schafhusen". The Würzburg bishop Siegfried von Truhendingen confirmed that the newly founded monastery Mönchröden was also given this settlement by Hermann Sterker , Burgrave of Meißen and his brother, Count Sterker.

The Urbarium of 1317, a listing of possessions of the Henneberger when the New Rulership acquired , recorded 13 estates, five of which were occupied. At the turn of the 15th century Schafhausen still had a farm. In the 16th century there were again several. Unterschafhausen and Oberschafhausen belonged to the place .

During the wars of liberation in 1812/13, the place that belonged to Mönchröden was destroyed. A complete reconstruction did not take place. In 1846 Gnailes and Schafhausen wanted to separate from Mönchröden and form their own community. When the buildings of Schafhausen were advertised for public sale for demolition by the Coburg Domain Office in January 1872 , the place had two farms, a sheep farm, a brickyard and 16 residents. In June 1872 Schafhausen no longer existed.

In the 1950s the area of the former Schafhausen settlement was rebuilt. The street name Schafhauser Grund was also given, which reminds of the lost place.
