A summer day is the meteorological-climatological term for a day on which the maximum daily temperature reaches or exceeds 25.0 ° C. Days on which the temperature reaches 30.0 ° C or more are recorded as hot days (hot day, tropical day). The set of hot days is a subset of the summer days. The measurements are taken in a standard weather hut at a height of two meters. If the night-time minimum temperature does not drop below 20.0 ° C, it is also called a tropical night . It should be noted that (according to the German Weather Service) the official measurement period is defined for the nightly minimum from 18:00 UTC of the previous day to 06:00 UTC of the current day - in summer from 20:00 CEST to 08:00 O'clock CEST.
In Switzerland the earliest summer day was on March 9th ( Lugano in 2000), the latest summer day - also the latest hot day - on October 24th ( Locarno-Monti in 2018, 30.5 ° C).
