Desert day , also extremely hot day , English Extremely hot day , also known by meteorologists under the abbreviation TX35GE , is a recently emerged meteorological-climatological term for days on which the maximum daily temperature reaches or exceeds 35 ° C. It is used for a more precise representation of the climate of a location and for assessing heat waves . The measurements are taken in a standard weather hut at a height of two meters. The set of desert days is a subset of the hot days (hot days, tropical days) and the summer days . If the night-time low temperature does not drop below 20 ° C, one also speaks of a tropical night .

    To the subject

30 ° C - the traditional criterion of a hot day in German-speaking countries - is hot in Central Europe, but by no means unusual: For example, Eastern Austria has an average of 10–15 hot days per year over many years. Therefore, an abnormally hot day is increasingly being used as a real exception (extreme heat anomaly ). The limit of 35 ° C is propagated within the framework of the CCl / CLIVAR / JCOMM Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices ( ETCCDI ) project (notation there TX35GE).

    • The expression desert day is increasingly found in Austria. The ZAMG uses 35 degree day or extremely hot day.
    • The Slovak weather service SHMÚ and also the Czech ČHMÚ speak of Supertropický deň ('supertropical day').
    • The Hungarian OMSZ uses Forró nap ('[burning] hot day')
