Cadenazzo is a municipality in the Sant'Antonino district , in the Bellinzona district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

While the village of Cadenazzo at around 215  m above sea level. M. is in the Magadino plain , is the highest point of the municipality, the Matro with 1198  m above sea level. M. , on the southern slope of the Ceneri massif .

About five kilometers east of the municipality, Cadenazzo has a commune with the former municipality of Medeglia (since November 21, 2010 municipality of Monteceneri ).

history

The village was first mentioned in 1355 as Catenacii . The Bellinzona chapter owned goods there. In 1438 it ceded part of it to the residents of Cadenazzo, with the obligation to preserve the San Pietro chapel. The village belonged to the Bellinzona parish until 1442 and then formed its own parish with Sant'Antonio; In 1830 it became an independent parish.

Incorporation of Robasacco

According to the March 7, 2005 edition of the FSO update announced changes since the change report No. 72 of May 2004 to the official register of Swiss municipalities , the merger of the former municipality of Robasacco with the municipality of Cadenazzo has been announced on March 13, 2005 . The merger was completed on March 14, 2005. The name of the new municipality is Cadenazzo .

The ascent of main road 2 begins in Cadenazzo and leads from Bellinzona over the Monte Ceneri pass to Lugano. In the center of Cadenazzo, the canton road 406 branches off from main road 2 to Luino. From this there is also a connection to Locarno parallel to main road 13, which runs north of the municipality. West of Cadenazzo, the railway to Luino branches off from the Giubiasco – Locarno railway . The Cadenazzo train station is a transfer point of regional importance.
