The Max Bögl Group is an international construction company based in Sengenthal near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

history

Max Bögl senior founded a bricklaying business in 1929. In 1955 Max Bögl junior joined the company and expanded it to include road and canal construction . The business was handed over to the sons Hans and Max Bögl in 1973. A year later, Max Bögl sen. the Bavarian Order of Merit , also in 1974 the Max Bögl Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co. KG was founded and the first branch was opened in Erlangen .

After company acquisitions had already been made, the first takeovers of East German companies took place in 1990 . The first foreign branch was established in 1994 in the Czech Republic . In 1997, individual areas were removed from the previous company as a whole and managed as an independent company within the group.

For the construction of the largest self-supporting hall in the world, the airship hall of Cargolifter AG in Brand near Berlin , the group of companies was awarded the European Steel Construction Prize 2000. In 2002 the group received the largest single order in the company's history for the construction of three subway stations in Amsterdam . The world's first commercially operated Transrapid line in Shanghai , with track girders from Max Bögl, was inaugurated in 2003. In 2005 the dam of the Leibis-Lichte dam in Thuringia was built. At the 2006 completed Nuremberg-Munich high-speed railway system "Slab Track Bögl" was for the first time ( track base plate ) is used. In 2007 the group of companies received a major order to convert the former space park into a shopping and adventure center “Waterfront” in Bremen from the Irish LNC Property Group. In 2008, the Deutsche Bahn AG visitor's Transrapid was brought from Munich Airport to the Bögl headquarters near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate for the symbolic price of 1 Euro plus transport.

On August 8, 2008, a bridge in Studénka that had been renovated by the Czech subsidiary BÖGL a KRÝSL ks collapsed. It crashed on the Eurocity railway line from Krakow to Prague . The EuroCity 102 Comenius raced into the rubble. Eight people died and 97 were injured. The Studenka railway accident was the worst in Czech history. The legal battle over responsibility for the bridge collapse ended in 2017 with the acquittal for lack of evidence of all defendants.

The lead in the acquisition work for the Transrapid was taken over in 2010, in the same year the company was awarded the contract for the expansion of the Miejski stadium (Wrocław) , the extension of the runway at Sibiu airport , the construction of the Arena Națională in Bucharest and the construction of the bypass expressway around Sibiu. The most powerful wind power plant in Bavaria was put into operation in 2011 on the Winnberg in the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate (total height 180 m, connected load 3.4 megawatts). The system produces more than a third of the electricity consumption of the entire municipality of Sengenthal . In 2011, construction began on the highest motorway bridge in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Sauerland at 115 meters at the end of the A46 . The “Nordlicht” shopping center was built in 2012. The company received an order worth 80 million euros for the delivery of the segments for the new Filder Tunnel in Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg) in 2013.

In January 2014, the topping-out ceremony for the 277-meter-long and 30-meter-high production hall next to the heavy-duty port in Rendsburg , where the production of towers for wind turbines began in July 2014 . In March 2014 the groundbreaking ceremony laid the foundation stone for the new city quarter in "Neuer Markt" .

As of September 2014, the “Max Bögl” brand became the company name, and the job title “Construction company” was dropped. With the foundation idea, the shareholders Johann Bögl and Max Bögl would like to underline their long-term entrepreneurial commitment.

Max Bögl was entrusted with the construction of a new A7 motorway bridge. On June 15, 2016, a steel support structure collapsed on the new construction of the Schraudenbach viaduct (A7). A 38-year-old construction worker was killed and 14 workers were injured, some seriously. The construction workers were all employed by a subcontractor, said Max Bögl. The public prosecutor's office is investigating the cause.

In mid-November 2016, the tunnel breakthrough at the Albabstiege tunnel took place as part of the new ICE line in Ulm. Construction work on the new Siemens Campus Erlangen began in December 2016. The eight office buildings, three parking garages and a canteen for around 7,000 employees will be ready for occupancy by 2020.

In spring 2017, Max Bögl Verkehrstechnik GmbH opened its new facility in Tauernfeld near Neumarkt. In March 2017 Johann Bögl became chairman of the supervisory board, Stefan Bögl became chairman of the executive board, his deputy is Michael Bögl.

Since October 2017, Max Bögl Wind AG, together with the turbine supplier GE Wind Energy, has held the record for the world's highest wind turbine. Max Bögl supplied the towers for four GE 3.4-137 wind turbines at the Gaildorf natural power storage facility. Some of these systems at the location in Baden-Württemberg have a hub height of 178 m and thus a total height of 246.5 m.

Accidents and collapses

  • The Studénka railway accident occurred on August 8, 2008, after part of a bridge fell onto the railway line below during a bridge renovation. A few minutes later the Eurocity Comenius drove from Krakow to Prague in the rubble, 8 people died and 95 were injured, some seriously. The bridge was built by Bögl & Krysl.
  • Motorway bridge near Kurimany , Slovakia. On November 2, 2012 the Kurimany bridge collapsed . Four workers died, three were seriously injured and eleven were slightly injured. The bridge was u. a. built by Bögl & Krysl.
  • The Schraudenbach Viaduct in Lower Franconia partially collapsed on June 15, 2016. A 38-year-old construction worker was killed and 14 workers were injured, some seriously.

The supervisory board consists of Johann Bögl, Max Bögl and Peter Hanf. The company divisions are building construction , civil engineering , civil engineering , precast factories, steel and plant construction , tunnel construction , microtunnelling, ground freezing , slipform construction , raw and building materials, insurance and financial services, project development, and Wind AG.

In the field of renewable energies, Bögl is involved in the development and construction of towers for wind turbines.

The group of companies has seven precast factories in Neumarkt, Bachhausen near Berching, Gera, Linthe, Hamminkeln and Liebenau and Osterrönfeld as well as over 30 other locations in Germany and other European countries, to which further production facilities are affiliated.

Max Bögl employs 6500 people worldwide (as of 2017), making it one of the largest employers in the Neumarkt region with locations in Sengenthal, Neumarkt and Mühlhausen near Neumarkt.
