The Boulevard Berlin is a shopping center in the Berlin district of Steglitz . It is located north of the Joachim-Tiburtius-Brücke on Schloßstraße up to the corner of Schildhornstraße , opened on April 4, 2012 and is one of the largest shopping centers in Berlin.
History and structure
In preparation for the new building, which was created according to plans by the architects Ortner & Ortner ( O&O Baukunst ), the Wertheim department store from the 1960s was gutted down to the basic structures and redesigned as an independent building with a natural stone facade. The work took place in the years 2009–2012 and resulted in costs of 390 million euros. The listed facade and a stair tower of the original building on Schloßstraße were preserved and integrated into the new building. In favor of Boulevard Berlin, Treitschkestrasse between Schloßstrasse and the newly created Harry-Bresslau-Park was also built over in the style of a promenade, which connects the center with the Karstadt department store via a glass passage.
When it opened, Boulevard Berlin was the 63rd shopping center in Berlin and the fourth on Schloßstraße. With 76,000 m² of sales area, it is the second largest shopping center in Berlin after Gropius Passagen (85,000 m²) - next to the Mall of Berlin, which is roughly the same size (76,000 m²), and offers space for around 140 shops and restaurants. Tenants include Saturn , Karstadt Sport , Esprit , Hallhuber and Hollister . The first operator was the Dutch company Multi Development . It sold Boulevard Berlin to Corio Deutschland GmbH .
A multi-storey car park with 850 parking spaces is connected to the shopping center and can be reached via Schildhornstrasse. It also has direct access to the Schloßstraße underground station on the U9 line and a direct connection to four bus lines .
