Harry-Bresslau-Park in Berlin-Steglitz

The Harry Bresslau Park is located in the Berlin district of Steglitz at the Lepsius- and Treitschkestraße. It is named after the German historian and diplomat Harry Bresslau .

history

The initially unnamed and popularly known as the “Treitschkepark” facility was renamed by resolution of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district council . The inauguration took place on November 21, 2008. The naming was intended to create a reference to the adjacent Treitschkestrasse, which is named after Heinrich von Treitschke . Treitschke is considered a pioneer of anti-Semitism in the German bourgeoisie . The sentence passed down from him: "The Jews are our misfortune". He was also the protagonist of the Berlin anti-Semitism dispute , in the course of which Bresslau was the first Jewish scientist to contradict him. A stele at the north-western corner of the park provides information about the events.

Design

The green space in the vicinity of Schloßstraße was included in the overall complex of this shopping center as part of the construction of Boulevard Berlin . The approximately 1.8  hectare park has old trees with a lawn. Newly laid paths were developed along the existing beaten track. There is also a football field , a climbing wall and a playground. The redesign is the result of a competition by the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office, which was won by the architects Ortner + Ortner Baukunst . Some ice wedges have been detected on the park grounds . Another stele provides information about the formation and structure of these vertical crevices in the permafrost soil .
