history

Founding years

The company was founded in September 1977 by Josef Hallhuber and his son Klaus (* 1947); in the same year the first Hallhuber store opened in Munich. In 1995 Karl Schleicher, owner of the Ingolstadt clothing company Rosner, took over Hallhuber GmbH. Klaus Hallhuber left the company, his wife Susanne Hallhuber stayed on as chief designer.

Expansion and change of ownership

The company developed from a textile chain store to a vertically organized company. The Italian Stefanel Group acquired the GmbH in 2000 . Hallhuber men's fashion was given up in 2005 and the women's outerwear segment expanded. Stefanel sold his shares in the company in 2009 for 25 million euros to the British investment company Change Capital Partners (CCP) based in London, which from 2006 to 2008 also owned the Jil Sander brand . In February 2015 Hallhuber was taken over by GERRY WEBER International AG based in Halle / Westphalia.

In September 2011 Hallhuber started his own online shop initially only in Germany. Austria followed a year later, France in January 2013, Switzerland in October 2014, Great Britain in November 2014 and Norway in August 2016. The brand can also be found in other online shops such as B. Zalando , Otto and Amazon available.

In July 2019, the insolvent parent company Gerry Weber sold the majority stake in Hallhuber GmbH to a fund managed by Robus Capital Management. The company announced that it would curb the expansion under Gerry Weber and want to invest more in the online business. In addition, growth opportunities are seen in the Scandinavian and Polish markets.

In April 2020, protective shield proceedings were initiated due to the threat of insolvency . The reason given was a drop in sales due to the temporary closure of sales areas as part of government measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic .
