The Schild AG was a Swiss fashion retailer with 13 stores in Switzerland. The Lucerne- based company employed around 600 people in 2015 and generated sales of around 153 million Swiss francs.

history

The company was founded in 1922 when Adrian Schild took over Volkstuch AG, which is active in the clothing industry, and expanded it as Tuch AG into a men's outfitter with several branches. In 1972 the company was renamed Schild AG.

The clothing company was u. a. also active in the uniform production and delivered u. a. Uniforms for the Swissair flight crew . After the bankruptcy of Swissair, Schild withdrew from this division. In the course of restructuring the Swiss fashion industry, Schild AG took over the 17 branches, including the 600 employees at the time, of the Spengler fashion house, which was in a difficult crisis. In 2005, Schild entered into a strategic partnership with the Swiss fashion label Navyboot and has since been the exclusive distributor of Navyboot's women's and men's clothing collection.

After the then four-person management took over the Schild Group from the Schild family as part of a management buyout in 2003 , the company was realigned. Since 2008, the majority of the shares have been in the hands of “ Barclays Private Equity (Schweiz) AG”, while the two managing partners, Thomas Herbert and Stefan Portmann, each held 24.5 percent of the shares. In 2010 Barclays sold its stake, Thomas Herbert and Stefan Portmann increased their shares to a combined 51 percent. Management increased its stake to 9 percent. As the new largest single shareholder, EGS Beteiligungen AG, a full subsidiary of the Ernst Göhner Foundation , took on 40 percent .

In October 2013 the Migros- owned retail chain Magazine zum Globus and Schild AG announced that the previous Schild shareholders were holding their shares (Stefan Portmann and Thomas Herbert each 27%, EGS Beteiligungen AG as a subsidiary of the Ernst Göhner Foundation 42% and the Schild-Management 4%) to Globus and in return Portmann and Herbert invest a double-digit million amount in Globus. Schild will continue to operate as an independent group within the entire company, which will become the Swiss market leader in the medium and upscale fashion segment with sales of around CHF 1 billion.

In May 2017, Migros announced that the Schild and Herren-Globus brands, as well as the independent market appearances, will disappear by 2019 and will be replaced by Globus as part of a one-brand strategy, integrated into existing Globus locations, or closed.

Social responsibility

In 2010, the non-governmental organization Declaration of Bern compared the standards of working conditions in production countries by means of surveys and internet research at 77 fashion labels. Schild was classified in the middle category "beginners" of five categories.
