BR Verkehr ( formerly : BR Traffic News ) is a 24-hour radio program of the Bavarian Radio broadcasted via DAB + , which uses a speech synthesis program to provide information about the traffic situation for car, truck and bus drivers and other road users. A similar system is also in use at WDR under the name VERA .

program

BR Verkehr broadcasts as an offer from Bavarian Broadcasting via the DAB + network. The program consists almost entirely of traffic information that the BR traffic department receives from the police, ADAC or other media. All traffic information and messages are sent to a so-called speech synthesis system. The result is a female computer-generated voice that reads out the messages and information. There is no active moderation.

The BR also sends traffic data in TPEG format ( Transport Protocol Experts Group format, a further development of the common TMC system) for other radio waves .

reception

The channel can be received in the DAB + regional channels: 7D in Lower Bavaria, 8C in Middle Franconia, 10A in Lower Franconia, Swabia and Upper Bavaria, 10B in Upper Franconia and 12D in Upper Palatinate. From September 1, 2005 to January 9, 2012, BR Verkehr was also receivable across Europe via DVB-S in the ARD Digital program package . The German cable providers also fed the station digitally into the cable network until January 9, 2012. It is also possible to call up the complete traffic reports by calling 01805-333066.

On January 9, 2012, broadcasting of BR Verkehr via satellite and cable was switched off. Since then, the EPG read on the former broadcasting slot of BR Verkehr that the station will be broadcast immediately and exclusively via DAB +.
