In the beginning, the Bavarian Broadcasting Company broadcast a second radio program on FM from Nuremberg , the content of which was more focused on Franconia . It started on August 18, 1950. In 1958, the BR expanded the new radio wave into a full program based in Munich. As part of a program reform in 1974, it was named Bayern 2 . Bayern 2 initially broadcast classical music, so-called serious music . Part of the program scheme were a number of word programs such as Landfunk under the direction of Erich Geiersberger (1959 to 1991) and the youth and music show Club 16, and from 1979 its successor Zündfunk . In 1960, regional windows began on Sundays (Franconia, Old Bavaria, Swabia), which were extended in time in 1971 (also Monday to Friday) and geographically from 1973 to 1979 (East Bavaria, Main Franconia, Munich) and switched to Bayern 1 in 1995. After the special-interest program Bayern 4 (2004–2009 Bayern 4 Klassik, since 2010 BR-Klassik ) went on air in October 1980, more and more pure word broadcasts found their way into Bayern 2; finally the program was renamed Bayern 2 Wort . In 2003, after a further program reform, musical content was added again on a larger scale. Bayern 2 was named Bayern 2 Radio . Since October 8, 2007, the program has been running again under the name Bayern 2.
