Niederwillingen is a district of the city of Stadtilm in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ).
geography
Niederwillingen is located on the Wipfra at an altitude of about 370 meters. To the north of the village lie the wide plains of the Thuringian Basin , to the southwest the forerunners of Reinsbergen and Thuringian Forest begin at the 502 meter high Willinger Berg, and to the southeast lies a 440 meter high threshold behind which the Ilm Valley extends. Forests and farmland alternate in the Niederwillingen area. Since 1993, three residential areas have been laid out on the outskirts, which brought over 200 new residents to the place.
history
Niederwillingens was first mentioned in a document in 1286. Until 1920, the place belonged to the Arnstadt office in the sovereignty of the Principality or the Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . In 1922 the district of Arnstadt was formed, to which the place belonged until 1994. Since then he has been part of the Ilm district . The community Niederwillingen existed from 1922 to 1996, to which the former communities Behringen and Oberwillingen belonged in addition to the place since July 1, 1950 . On June 1, 1996 Niederwillingen joined the Ilmtal community based in Griesheim . This in turn was incorporated into Stadtilm on July 6, 2018.
Culture and sights
The church of St. Peter and Paul is worth seeing . It is of Romanesque origin and received its current appearance after extensive renovations in 1786. During the GDR era, the structural condition of the church deteriorated, so that it had to be renovated from 1990 to 1994. At that time, a crucifixion from 1723 and the altarpiece from 1772 were restored and the organ repaired.
The numerous half-timbered buildings in the village are also worth seeing. In 1995 Niederwillingen won the nationwide competition: “ Our village should become more beautiful ”.
In Niederwillingen is also a tunnel Museum , the information on the tunnel along the A 71 presented.
Economy and Transport
Niederwillingen is an agricultural village. Today many residents work in Stadtilm or Arnstadt .
Streets connect the place with Stadtilm , Griesheim , Arnstadt , Oberwillingen and Marlishausen . Since 1894 the place has also had a railway connection on the Arnstadt – Saalfeld railway line . In the course of the renovation of the railway line, the old Niederwillingen station was given up. Regional trains of the Erfurt Railway stop every hour at the new stopping point, which has been created closer to the village. They run to Erfurt and Saalfeld / Saale without changing trains.
The A 71 runs about 2 km west of the village, the nearest exits are Arnstadt-Süd and Ilmenau-Ost .
