Arnstadt district
The Arnstadt district was a district in Thuringia that existed between 1922 and 1952. The administrative district of Arnstadt in the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen had already existed from 1850 to 1912 .
history
Schwarzburg-Sondershausen
In the 19th century, the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen consisted of the three spatially separated parts of the country: Sondershausen, Arnstadt and Gehren. The Sondershausen part of the country formed the subordinate rule , while the Arnstadt and Gehren parts of the country were called the upper rule . When the national territory was reorganized in 1850, the two administrative districts of Arnstadt and Gehren were formed in the suzerainty . The administrative district of Arnstadt included the city of Arnstadt and its surroundings, the exclaves Geschwenda and Rockhausen . In 1912, the two administrative districts of Arnstadt and Gehren were dissolved and the supremacy was divided into the independent city of Arnstadt and the district of suzerainty . In 1918 the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen became the Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , which in turn opened up in Thuringia on May 1, 1920 .
State of Thuringia
The district of Arnstadt was created with the Thuringian District Division Act of October 1, 1922, after the State of Thuringia was formed in 1920. The city of Arnstadt remained independent and became the seat of the district administration. The Arnstadt district was formed from:
- the entire district of sovereignty except for the communities of Garsitz , Oelze and Schwarzmühle , which came to the new district of Rudolstadt and the community of Angelhausen-Oberndorf , which was incorporated into the independent city of Arnstadt (until 1920 Schwarzburg-Sondershausen)
- the communities of the old office of Ilmenau from the administrative district Weimar (until 1920 Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach)
- most of the municipalities of the old Stadtilm office from the Rudolstadt District Office (until 1920 Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt)
- the communities of Böhlen , Friedersdorf and Wildenspring from the Königsee District Office (until 1920 Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt)
- the municipalities of the district office of Ohrdruf located on the Gera (until 1920 Saxe-Coburg and Gotha)
- the municipalities of the Gotha district office to the west of the Prussian enclave of Mühlberg (until 1920 Saxe-Coburg and Gotha)
- the communities Achelstädt , Gügleben and Osthausen from the district of Saalfeld (until 1920 Sachsen-Meiningen)
- the part of the community Neustadt am Rennsteig belonging to the district of Hildburghausen (until 1920 Saxony-Meiningen)
Cities in the district were Ilmenau , Stadtilm , Gehren , Langewiesen , Großbreitenbach and Plaue . The areas of the district extended roughly from Erfurt in the north to Rennsteig in the south.
The area of the district was about 800 km², the population was about 110,000. Neighboring districts (starting in the north) were the districts of Weißensee , Weimar , Rudolstadt , Hildburghausen and Schleusingen , the urban district of Zella-Mehlis , the district of Gotha and the independent city of Arnstadt, which was completely surrounded by the district of Arnstadt .
SBZ / GDR
On October 1, 1945, the part of the community of Stützerbach in the Schleusingen district was reclassified to the Arnstadt district.
During the first district reform in the GDR on July 1, 1950, the city of Arnstadt lost its district freedom and was incorporated into the district. In addition, the district gave the communities of Molsdorf and Rockhausen to the district of Erfurt , the community of Masserberg to the district of Hildburghausen, the community of Pennewitz to the district of Rudolstadt and the community of Gehlberg to the district of Suhl . At the same time, the Röhrensee community from the Gotha district, the Kirchheim community from the Weißensee district, the Riechheim community from the Weimar district and the Oesteröda community from the Rudolstadt district moved to the Arnstadt district.
As part of the administrative reform of 1952 in the GDR , the old district of Arnstadt was divided:
- The southern part of the district with the cities of Gehren, Großbreitenbach, Ilmenau and Langewiesen formed the new district of Ilmenau together with some communities in the districts of Rudolstadt and Suhl
- The Röhrensee community came to the Gotha district .
- The northern part of the district with the cities of Arnstadt, Plaue and Stadtilm together with the municipality of Crawinkel in the district of Gotha formed the district of Arnstadt .
The Arnstadt district became the new Erfurt district and the Ilmenau district became the new Suhl district .
The Arnstadt district was very similar to the current Ilm district . The Ilm district was formed in 1994 when the Arnstadt and Ilmenau districts were merged again. The district town is still Arnstadt, but today this town is no longer a district, as it was before 1952.
