Ellichleben is a district of the municipality of Witzleben in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ) with 242 inhabitants (as of June 1, 2010).

geography

Ellichleben is located in the extreme southeast of the Thuringian Basin . To the south the landscape rises steeply to the 446 meter high Hettstedter Berg . In the east the valley opens towards the Ilm valley. The neighboring town of Dienstedt is also located here . To the north and west of Ellichleben there are large arable land. The village of Witzleben follows a little west of Ellichleben . Ellichleben is about 350 meters above sea level and the Mettbach flows through it. Its source is north-west near Achelstädt and it flows into the Ilm in Dienstedt in the south-east.

history

The place was first mentioned at the end of the 12th century, making Ellichleben comparatively young for this region. Until 1920 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the principality or free state of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (Amt Stadtilm ), then it came to the district of Arnstadt , whose successor is today's Ilm district . The village has been part of the Witzleben community since 1965 , before that it formed its own community.

church

The church "Zum Frieden Gottes" in Ellichleben, built around 1720, is particularly worth seeing. It was built on the foundation walls of a destroyed previous building and at first glance looks very simple. The tower and the nave are made of unplastered ashlar and quarry stone masonry. A second look inside the church reveals a magnificent and baroque interior with a double-broken wooden barrel and two-storey galleries. In the years 1770 and 1777 this equipment even survived two large fires. The nave is covered by a fully hipped mansard roof. The parapet fields are painted with tendril ornamentation. The tendril motif is taken up again in the form of a carved lattice on the box installation under the south pore. The pulpit altar in the east is built architecturally, the baptismal font comes from the second half of the 15th century. The organ on the west gallery was built in 1776 by Johann Daniel Schulze from Milbitz . The 20 sounding voices of the instrument are distributed over a main work, an upper work and a pedal.

In the 1960s, the organ was destroyed by vandals and rainwater that had entered and made it unusable. The Association for the Preservation of Orgel Ellichleben eV, formed in 2003, took on this problem. In order to breathe life into the old instrument again, he organized various activities such as concerts and theater performances to raise money for the restoration of the organ. The repair (with financial support from public and church institutions) by the organ building company Schönefeld in Stadtilm was completed in 2010 and the baroque Schulze organ was officially consecrated on June 20 and put back into operation.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economy of Ellichleben, like that of the neighboring towns, is dominated by agriculture. The plains in the area are relatively fertile, so many different crops can be grown.

Ellichleben is on the main road from Arnstadt to Rudolstadt . The B 87 ( Ilmenau - Weimar ) runs about two kilometers southeast of the village. The nearest train stations are in Stadtilm (Erfurt – Saalfeld route) and Kranichfeld (to Weimar).
