The district of Stadtroda in the district of Gera

The Stadtroda district was a district in the Gera district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Stadtroda in Thuringia . His area is now in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Stadtroda .

geography

location

The district of Stadtroda was in the middle of the district of Gera . It was one of the most sparsely populated counties in the district.

Neighboring areas

The district of Stadtroda bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Eisenberg , Gera-Land , Pößneck and Jena-Land .

Natural space

In terms of landscape, the district was part of the border of the Thuringian Basin . The heights varied between 260 and 400 m. Since the soil was of poor quality, it was hardly used for agriculture. More than 60% of the circular area was made up of pine and spruce. Several small rivers, e.g. B. the Roda and the Zeitzbach , which mostly belonged to the catchment area of the Saale , crossed the area. In the north of the place Waldeck bordered the approximately 60 hectare nature reserve Waldecker Schloßgrund. Another nature reserve, Kesselborn (9.3 ha), was east of Erdmannsdorf.

history

After the new Free State of Thuringia was founded on May 1, 1920, a comprehensive territorial reform took place on October 1, 1922, during which the district of Jena-Roda was founded (the administrative seat was the municipality of Roda ). In the same year the district was renamed the Roda district, and at the beginning of 1939 it was finally renamed the Stadtroda district. At the beginning of 1945 the district had 239 parishes.

During the first territorial reform in the GDR , it was dissolved on July 1, 1950 and divided between the districts of Jena and Gera. Two years later, the Stadtroda district was re-established by the law on the further democratization of the structure and functioning of the state organs in the federal states of the German Democratic Republic. On July 25, 1952, the existing five states were dissolved and divided into 14 districts. Traditional circles were dissolved or divided into smaller circles, whereby there were also changes of area beyond the borders of the former 5 countries. The district of Stadtroda was mainly formed from the district of Jena and assigned to the district of Gera , the city of Stadtroda became the district seat .
The following municipalities formed the new district of Stadtroda :

economy

The coniferous forests that spread out on the nutrient-poor soils were the basis for the widespread furniture industry (e.g. in Stadtroda). Another economic focus was the ceramics industry, which was located in Hermsdorf. VEB Kombinat Keramische Werke (= parent company with high voltage test field for insulators) was an important supplier for microelectronics. In Hermsdorf there was still a building element factory, a company for insulating building materials and a part of the VEB Carl Zeiß Jena, in which many workers from Stadtroda were employed. In recent years tourism has also gained in importance. Important companies were among others:

  • VEB Möbelwerke Stadtroda
  • VEB Ceramic Works Hermsdorf
  • VEB concrete works Stadtroda

traffic

This circle plays an important role in the transport sector. This is where two transit roads met at the Hermsdorfer Kreuz : Berlin-Hirschberg and Dresden-Eisenach . The only railway line in the district, the Weimar – Jena – Stadtroda – Gera line, runs parallel to the west-east running transit motorway .
