Rabis is a district of the municipality of Schlöben in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

geography

Rabis is located at the foot of the southern slope of Bergstock Wöllmisse near the state road 1075 from Jena towards Schöngleina - Bürgel . To the north is the Burgrabis castle on the Bergstock . The agricultural town works together with the neighboring towns of Zöttnitz , Mennewitz and Schlöben.

history

Rabis was first mentioned in a document in 1236. In addition to the manor there was a Freihof in the village, where the owners often changed. Rabis Castle , also known as the airship, is also part of the place. Up there on the Wöllmisse there were once three farms, one of which was an inn. In 1966 they announced the closure of the restaurant. The Rabis village church was built in 1776/77 . The place was and is characterized by agriculture. Today the neighboring villages work closely together.

The von Hessler family owned the manor in the village for many years. This was followed by the von Hardenberg family with their most famous representative Novalis , who grew up in neighboring Schlöben.
