The village, laid out as a round by the Sorbs , is located in a flat trough-shaped valley at the foot of the Wöllmisse mountain range between Schlöben and Schöngleina . history
The first documentary mention took place in 1279. 1358 Messrs handed over by Lobdeburg - Leuchtenburg the former Vorwerk the Monastery Roda . In 1546 the Mennewitz Monastery was sold to the Lords of Bünau zu Schlöben. As a result of the Thirty Years War, the village became impoverished. The community was able to buy land in 1596, so that in 1653 twelve farms were again viable.
Agriculture shaped and still shapes the village today. There is now a dairy cattle facility in Mennewitz , which is managed jointly with the neighboring villages. In 1998 there were 76 residents in the village.
