Mennewitz village church
The Mennewitz village church is located in the Mennewitz district of the Schlöben municipality in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Schöngleina-Schlöben in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
history
The church of Mennewitz is a branch church of Schlöben. Both churches are similar in form and content. This hall church was built between 1742 and 1744 with parts of the previous church. The date of the first building of a church is much earlier.
On the east side there are stands with the integrated pulpit altar . Three- and two-story galleries are located on the long and short sides. The baroque organ was created by Justinus Ehrenfried Gerhard from Lindig in 1745 .
In 1880 two bronze bells were acquired , the larger of which was melted down during the First World War . In 1958 steel bells were bought with the inscription: Glory to God on high and peace on earth .
