The Roda is a 33.6 km long, right-hand tributary of the Saale in eastern Thuringia ( Germany ).
River course
The river rises near Rodaborn north of Triptis and flows through the so-called valley villages (including Renthendorf ) to Stadtroda and flows into the Saale in Jena .
Part of the water is treated in the Jena-Süd combined power plant and used as boiler feed water.
Origin of name
The river name is derived from the Old High German rod or the Middle High German red . This is the stem of the Middle Low German word Roden ( to erode to the roots ) , which is still used today .
