Renthendorf is a municipality in the southeast of the Saale-Holzland district and part of the Hügelland / Täler administrative community .
geography
Neighboring communities are Eineborn , Kleinebersdorf , Ottendorf , Tautendorf and Weißbach in the Saale-Holzland district, the city of Triptis in the Saale-Orla district and the city of Münchenbernsdorf and Schwarzbach in the district of Greiz .
The community itself is made up of the two districts Hellborn and Renthendorf.
history
Renthendorf was first mentioned in a document on September 7, 1358. Ober-Renthendorf initially belonged to the office of Arnshaugk in the Electorate or Kingdom of Saxony , before it fell with the Neustädter Kreis in the course of the Wars of Liberation in 1815 and the associated assignments of territory to Prussia and later to the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . Unter-Renthendorf, however, belonged to the Roda office of the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Saxe-Altenburg .
The spur on which the church stands is surrounded by a moat. It separates the church from the Brehm memorial . The moat once protected a castle complex. The ditch is also called the “cave” in the village.
The future zoologist and "animal father" Alfred Brehm was born as the son of the "bird pastor" Christian Ludwig Brehm in the parsonage in Renthendorf and died there. The Brehm memorial with an exhibition on the life and work of Alfred Edmund and Christian Ludwig Brehm is located in the house of the bird pastor's widow and his children, which was built after his death . The two-story brick building is ailing (2013) and in urgent need of general renovation. The library had to be relocated to the district archive to relieve the statics. A special purpose association for restoration has been formed to which, in addition to Renthendorf, several surrounding communities belong.
Alfred Brehm, his parents and other family members rest in the churchyard in Renthendorf. The name Alfred Brehm (1891–1916) can also be found on the war memorial for the fallen of the community.
In Hellborn, there are two stone crosses 8 m apart on the western edge of the village. The western cross was found lying in the river bed in the Nahe in 1930 and set up at the current location.
On May 7, 1990, Hellborn was incorporated .
