history

The first documentary mention of Silbitz was on September 24, 1217 and Seifartsdorf in 1274. On May 16, 1678, Hans Bastian II von Zehmen acquired the Silbitz manor with the outwork from Hofmeister Ludwig Ernst von Pöllnitz . The prince. Saxon. Naumburg. He received a feudal letter on June 10, 1678. In his will he laid down a legacy for the clergy and the poor at Silbitz. On October 13, 1713, his son Hans-Georg von Zehmen sold the manor to Hermann Andreas Krumme. Since he had no male descendants, the legacy was converted into a permanent stock of capital by Hans George von Zehmen and with the approval of the Zeitz Consistory in 1729 . The administration of the capital was carried out by the Silbitzer pastor. It was customary to bake small loaves of bread or rolls and distribute them to the local and foreign poor. Due to the increased grain prices, this could not be continued after 1814.

In the corridor of the incorporated village of Seifartsdorf there are eight grave mounds from the Neolithic Age in the area of Alte Straße on the eastern edge of the "Grolle". During excavations one found grave installations and stone slabs. The two best preserved burial mounds have been marked with an oak. Four burial mounds were excavated in 1924.

On March 16, 2004 Seifartsdorf was incorporated into Silbitz. The new municipality, which has more than doubled in area, has since consisted of two areas that only touch at one point and are separated by a street that belongs to Caaschwitz.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economy of the community has been determined for several decades by the iron foundry , which produced during the time of the GDR under the name VEB Stahlgießerei Silbitz . In 1990 the company name was renamed Silbitz Guss GmbH and was again the largest employer in the region with a turnover of approx. 75 to 80 million euros per year and with approx. 400 employees and 40 trainees. (As of 06/2008). In addition to the acquisition of the Eurocast foundry in Košice, Slovakia in 2006 and the establishment of Zeitzer Guss GmbH in 2007, the long-established company was taken over by Deutsche Beteiligungs AG in 2015 and, one year later, under the name after the acquisition of the former axle bearing works in Straßfurt Silbitz Group GmbH changes its name. Today, with over 1000 employees, it is still the largest employer in the region.

Sports

The most important sports club in the community is SV Elstertal Silbitz / Crossen, whose men's soccer team has played in the Thuringia district league since 2007. After the class reform from the district league to the regional class, the Elstertaler played in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 season in the regional class season 2. In 2012, they were promoted to the regional class East. In the years 1958 to 1962 the soccer team played as BSG Stahl Silbitz in the third class II. GDR league , 1981/82 in the second class GDR league .
