Dornburg-Camburg is a small town in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia , which was created on December 1, 2008 from the merger of the cities of Camburg and Dornburg / Saale and the municipality of Dorndorf-Steudnitz .

geography

The city is located in the north-western part of the Saale-Holzland district in the middle Saale valley between the cities of Jena and Naumburg (Saale) . A special feature of this merger is that the new city consists of two unconnected areas. While Dornburg and Dorndorf-Steudnitz are related, Camburg has so far no common land border with the two aforementioned.

On January 30, 2008, the mayors of Dornburg, Dorndorf-Steudnitz and Camburg signed the area change agreement, which provides for the incorporation of Dornburg and Dorndorf-Steudnitz into the city of Camburg, which changes its name to Dornburg-Camburg. The merger took effect on December 1, 2008.

In May 2012, the lawyer Dorothea Storch CDU was elected as the new mayor. The predecessor in office was Thomas Moritz.

In the election on April 15, 2018, she was confirmed in office with 83.2% of the votes cast and a voter turnout of 43.1%.

In addition to the federal highway 88 , which runs through all three places, there is a train and bus line that connects Camburg, Dornburg and Dorndorf-Steudnitz. Dornburg-Camburg is on the Großheringen – Saalfeld railway with the Dornburg (Saale) and Camburg (Saale) stations . The latter station was the terminus of the now closed Zeitz – Camburg railway line .
